Job description
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our design team, based in the Manchester office. The role will be full-time on a permanent contract, in a fast-paced environment. You will be reporting to the Head of Design, responsible for managing the design process of façade remediation and new build projects.
Duties include
- Lead design meetings and organise technical meetings with relevant parties (colleagues, clients, consultants, subcontractors, etc.).
- Set design release targets, manage progress, and prepare/manage design documentation (drawings, specifications, schedules).
- Provide preliminary design information for pre-construction discussions and costing.
- Review designs for compliance, buildability, cost-efficiency, and coordination with related trades.
- Support the Project Management team with design-related matters and identify design risks and opportunities.
- Maintain accurate project records, manage RFIs, and secure building/planning consents.
- Ensure project scope awareness, address variations with commercial teams, and update the Design Management Plan.
- Use Procore software for project management and document control.
- Supervise and mentor design subordinates.
Requirements and skills
- Architectural experience in construction, ideally with expertise in structures and cladding.
- Strong technical knowledge, proficient in AutoCAD, MS Office, and document management systems.
- Experience in site condition surveys and inspections.
- Degree-level education in a construction-related discipline.
- Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and analytical thinking.
- Strong communication, flexibility, and multitasking skills.
- Persistent, task-driven, with a professional and collaborative approach.
- Commercial acumen and ability to develop cost-effective solutions.
- Knowledge of Scottish & English building regulations.
- UK driving license with preferred access to insured vehicle.
